The website is done!

We have tweaked the homepage and added a competitions page as we realised it was needed as there was no-where for us to squeeze in information about the competition.

Here are the final pages of our website with lists of their main features:
INTRODUCTION
  •  Logo being "written" on screen
  • Song being played in the background
HOMEPAGE

  • Music video and album
  • Large image of Knyt
  • Ability to interact (Facebook, Twitter, Competition)
NEWS

  • News feed with links to different pages
  • Tour dates with link to buy tickets
PHOTOS

  •  Photo gallery
  • Comments box

The screenshot above shows how the audience can click on one of the photos to view it in larger screen.

VIDEOS

  • Screen to view the video
  • List of the videos
BIO

  •  Description of him and his life
  • Picture of him that fits with the whole "Biography" and reflecting on his life theme of this page
COMPETITION

  •  Contact form for the audience to enter the competition
  • Album cover with "Win Official Knyt Album" banner
  • Competition question
STORE

  • Links to the online store
  • Images of the album and the clothes available to buy
There are features that always remain at the top of the page. These are the menu, logo and advertisement banner. It is important for those features to remain at the top of the website because navigation is extremely important in order for the audience to look around the website. The logo makes sure the audience never forgets what website they are on and gives it identity and as the album would be one of Knyt's main sources of income, it is vital that there is some sort of advertisement for it throughout the website.

Overall, we are extremely happy with the final website and feel that we worked hard on it and have come out with a great, professional looking website which is exactly what we were aiming for.

Website Changes

We have been working on our website for a while but there is something that isn't coming together and the look of the website is nothing like we had wanted it to be.
Instead of trying to tweak and change things, we are just going to start a fresh website and make sure this one is created to look exactly how we want it to look.

The only page that will remain the same is the introduction page.

Here is the old homepage:
This homepage is too simple and the images at the bottom "Become A Member" and "New Single, Knyt Rider, Coming Soon" are screenshots from a video so the quality of the image is extremely bad. The album cover shown on the website is not the finished version and the logos for the stores to buy the album in are obviously taken from google.

These flaws have made the homepage look extremely amateur and that is DEFINITELY NOT the look we want to achieve.

We have made changes to the website and this is what it now looks like:

There is a rotating gallery that shows three images telling the audience about the new music video, the new album and the new single that is coming out soon. We have also got rid of some unnecessary pages that were increasing our workload but were not needed. There is still a lot of work to be done through-out the website but the changes have made it easier as there is now a clear theme that we can follow through-out the pages.

Website

The website is almost finished!

There haven't been any hiccups and the layout of the website has come out really well. It has a sleek modern look to it which is exactly what we were going for.

We have used a consistent theme of purple, black and white as well as the same font on all the pages for the headers. This made all the pages link together and the website "flow". The menu, banner and logo always remain at the top of the website. It is extremely important that the menu stays at the top because easy navigation is key when making a successful website.

The consistent theme of black, purple and white through-out the website which links to the style of the music video as well as the album cover. We took inspiration from Jay Sean's, JLS and Trey Songz' website as they are the type of artists that Knyt would be compared to.
There are some small things that need to be done to the homepage though as it is definitely the weakest page out of the whole website. It has all the conventions of a real website but there is something not coming together and therefore it doesn't fit with the rest of the website.

Editing Update

Uhh Ohh !

We have finished the music video but when exported and put up on YouTube, the white layers we had used to hide the background were clearly visible and any of the original "white" studio background was yellow. It looked horrible !

The school has hired a new media technician who is an expert at video editing and he has advised us to use the chroma key tool instead of adding layers. We have gone through a short bit of the video and done this and it looks much better when exported now !

We are going to work like crazy and change the whole music video. Luckily we don't have to change the structure/ layout of the music video; just the effects so hopefully we will be done by the end of today.

Screening

I just talked to Harry on Facebook and he has uni lectures the week we plan to do our screening but he is free on Wednesday. So we should definitely have our screening on that day if we want him to come.

Photoshoot

At the end of our video shoot, we took advantage of the fact that we were in a studio with many different backdrops and we did our photoshoot. Here are some of the photos we took with the different colour backdrops and with Harry wearing different outfits:

It's A Wrap !

We have finished our shoot !!!!

Overall, as a group, we feel that it went really well. We're a little scared that we might have missed out a couple shots but we definately have enough footage to edit and create our music video.
We took advantage of the time we had at the end to take photos using a Sony stills camera. We used another smaller camera to film backstage footage.

Harry was really nice during the day and he brought two friends along to keep him company. It was a fun but tiring day and we are really happy with what we achieved.

Update

Hey Bianca

We really need/want to see that video of you dancing. Is there a way you could send it to us?

:)

Location Reccy

Today, we went to the studio to look around it and confirm our video shoot day.

We felt that it was extremely important for us to visit the studio before the day of the shoot as we could see what exactly would be possible and also get some more inspiration.

The studio isn't exactly what we were expecting as the pictures on the website did make it look a lot bigger. But we are happy with the variety of lights they have as well as all the different colour backdrops.

The picture of me above did hint out one problem we may have. I was actually wearing a PURPLE cardigan that day but in the picture, it definately looks BLUE.
This is a major issue as the camera we used to take that picture is the camera we are going to use to take the promotional shots and in those shots...we want the artist to be wearing PURPLE.

Hopefully, better lighting will improve the colour quality but if not, we'll have to do some serious editing in photoshop.

Call Sheet and Shot List

In order to prepare for the shoot and make sure we use our time efficiently, we have created a shot list and a call sheet.

Each person involved in the shoot has a copy of the call sheet so that in case of any situation, they know who to contact. We also have a shot list so that we can make sure we film every shot we need. The shot list is also the shooting schedule as it contains times so we know when each shot should be done by.

Update

Hey,
just got an email from asos. it says the order has been dispatched today and it should be delivered within 4 working days :S hopefully it comes in time !

Final Costume

We have decided on the costume and mask for the dancer in our music video. We are really excited with the look we are going to create for the dancer and feel that she will look brilliant.

We decided on this costume because of the modern straps on the back so we can include shots of the dancers back which are usually found in R&B videos. The silver mask with the black feathers fits into our colour scheme and our almost "fairytale" theme.

Dancers and Runners

We tried but we haven't been able to find a dancer to feature in our music video so we have decided that Bianca will be the dancer. It will work out much better because she is already dedicated to the project, she has dance experience and is a really good performer.

In order to help us out on the day, we have got some trustworthy people to help us set up equipment and do various other jobs on the day and have got them to sign a contract:

Barnet Location Update

The owner of the studio in Barnet that we went to see on Saturday has emailed me and attached some up-to-date photos of the studio that were not previously on the website.

If we are using this as a back-up plan, we need to make some decisions quickly as it seems other people want to use this location during the week we would want to shoot it.

Location Update

As we are still looking for a studio location, I emailed Gap Studios West to inquire about their rates and whether any discounts were available. Below is the reply, I received:

Although the rate is quite high, they had said they would help us. I then rang them back to find out how they could help us and the owner said that they do not charge by the hour, the daily rate is fixed at £350 and they could not offer us any student discount.

Group Meeting

We have decided to make the music video more preformance and include little/ no storyline at all. This will make production slightly easier as we will only need to find a photographic studio and not a dance studio.

We are trying to finalise how the music video will look and play out and what studio we are actually going to use.

Inspiration

We are taking some inspiration from this music video because it has the same sleek and urban feel that we want to recreate. It has been filmed totally in a studio and has sexy female extras in it which are two concepts we want to include in the music video

Update

Hey guys,

The studio person just emailed me back. they said it's fine to take pictures and they'll be expecting us.
so tomorrow lets sort out exactly what we need to do.

AND won't we have to take promotional shots for the website and album cover on the filming day ? or will we just do it in the seward studio after half term ?

Patricia

Peace & Light Photographic and Film Studio

It has come to our attention that the Seward studio will most likely be unavailable during the half term.
We feel that this studio in Barnet, North London would be a perfect location to film a lot of the music video in.

http://www.londonstudiohire.com/gallery.html - This is a link to the gallery which shows images of the location.

We would like to visit the location this Saturday (9/10/10) to see if it will really be suitable for the video.

I emailed the owner of the studio to see if it would be alright for us to visit :

I received this reply within 20 minutes :

Treatment Feedback

We presented our treatment to the class today and we received some feedback from Mrs B:
  • confirm locations and find out more information about the studio we want to use
  • confirm dancers - they need to have huge acting confidence
  • be very organised with the planning of the music video as we are using an actual artist
  • shoot as tight as we can whenever possible
  • have a location reccy
  • have a technical run-through
  • go through the lyrics line-by-line
  • go through our practicalities again
  • find more people to help us on shoot - extra crew and runners
